One of my friends had recently tweeted how blown his mind was when he found out just how small we really are. It reminded me of a video I once saw in one of my college bible studies. And boy let me tell ya, did it fire me up.
WARNING: Below the videos is just my random (and unorganized) rant of just how crazy I am over the greatness of our God.
I went to go look at the videos once again and decided to again watch the 40 minute segment. Here it is if you want to see what I'm talkin about...
How GREAT IS our God!
There's a song that everyone knows that speaks of his greatness.
"How great is our God
Sing with me how great is our God
And all will see how great
How Great is our God"
We think it's oversung or whatever but if you really sing it with full meaning, you will know that it is impossible to even try and imagine how great of a God we really have. Like Louis said in the video, the God that we serve, spit out those stars out of His mouth. To him, they're just little bright flashy things floating around in space. When I saw the size of the largest star (that we know of) and how Louis said that a sharpie dot would not be able to approximate the size of the sun, I did have that shrinking feeling. (If you haven't watched the videos, I'm sure you want to now.) How crazy is it that the God who made these huge glowy ball things would care so much about the little beings of life that He created on this small little blue planet that we call earth. I'll tell you. It's pretty crazy.
Its so crazy that despite God's creation of huge glowy ball things that float around in space, He decided to create humans, His most complex yet His most loved creations of all. And He didn't just make a few of em, He made billions of them... and still continues to. But it doesn't just stop there. When a kindergartner draws a picture, they think its the coolest thing ever. They make it, then probably five minutes later, they forget about it. Too bad that's not how God works. He created us from day one and until the day that we finish living our lives on this earth, He strives to develop a relationship with us. He doesn't just make us then forget about us! No. Over and over and over again He tells us (through the Bible, which is God's spoken word) how much He cares for his creation. He doesn't think that some of His creations and the best, He believes that all of them are. Just like artists leave their names on their masterpieces, so does our Creator.
Laminin.
We can talk about how great God is until we die and not even come close to capturing His greatness. But we would miss out on the other half. We are His prized creations and it is crazy to think that. Some people hate how they look or they think their lives are miserable. No. They need not fear. They are one of the most amazing, most complex, living things ever made. Of all systems we can ever think of, the human body is the most complex yet most unique systems ever. Our bodies are made out of little tiny cells that make up cool parts that work together to get our bodies to function. If you want to know just how crazy this human body is, go take an anatomy class. Then you'll see just how intricate everything works out. But We can talk about how cool the digestive system of our body takes food and creates energy for our body or how crazy the human brain works and is able to process things faster than the world's fastest computers. But I want to just point out what is keeping all of it together. A cool little protein called laminin bonds together the cells of our body like glue. And what does this laminin thing look like? Google it.
Yes ladies and gentlemen. As Louis pointed out, that thing is in and all over our bodies. The way I see it, God decided to put His little signature on His masterpiece aka us.
"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made..." (Psalm 139:14)
Yeah that's right. God made me. And why in the world would I spend the only life i have doing dumb things. Why would I want to take God's most special creation aka me and do stuff to tarnish it. That's like taking the Mona Lisa painting to a bunch of toddlers at daycare. No sir. I am His wonderful creation. God has promised to not do anything that would do us any hamr (Jer 29:11) and so we should return to Him the same.
I really do feel sorry for those people in the world that think the whole universe revolves around them. The ignorant ones that believe that they don't need to believe in God and that it's always going to be their way just don't know what they are missing out on. I often think about whether those people actually care about where they go after they die. Do they not think about why all these crazy Christians are running around? Do they not think about why there is so much controversy over the Darwinian theory of evolution? Do they really think that there is such a thing as "luck" or "coincidence"? And here they are thinking that their problems are so important and its all about them. When they are just tiny specks in a little blue rock with 6 billion other little specks.
I believe in the almighty creator of the universe. The God who knows the grains of sand in the desert. The God who created me and gave me life and gives me blessings every day. The God who says it, and it is (Psalm 33). BOOM. The God who is righteous and caring and is ever so jealous of me. The God whose love is indescribable, un-containable, never ending, never failing.
This is my random vent on just how on fire I was at God's greatness. I could rant forever till my eyes pop out and I die, and not even come close to describing God's greatness. And the words I have written cannot fully express my overall appreciation for God's greatness. But I tried. D for done.
"Name above all names. You are worthy of all praise. And my heart will sing, HOW GREAT IS OUR GOD."
