The Good Things In Life

The good things in life... They all take time.

Until you find top ramen and realize that it only takes 5 minutes for that to happen...

Othwerwise, all the good things in life take time. Celebrities don't make it to the top by just all of a suddedn writing a song and the next day have little 13 year old girls flaunting themselves at you. Politicians can't just say they want to be president one day, and the next week they are escorted around by their own team of secret service. And cookies don't just magically get put into the oven and come out nice and toasty in 30 seconds... More like ten minutes... Just too long...

The concept of patience is a very interesting one. We live in a society where everyone must have everything NOW. We live in the era of instant access. Where all you have to do is pull out a little gizmo in your pocket, press a couple buttons, and you instantly can figure out whether its going to be a sunny day or a rainy day. We are all about wanting it now. I wan't my cereal NOW. I wan't to be done with school NOW. Why can't I get that new cellphone NOW?

Now now now now. Some kids are getting so spoiled these days. I often see parents who are all about giving their kids whatever they want whenever they want (which would be NOW) and they don't stop! Kids grow up under the impression that all they have to do is ask and good thing magically come to them. No. Absolutely not the way LIFE is run.

In the REAL world, the good things in life take things like PATIENCE, HARD WORK, and PERSEVERANCE.

Take a play or a musical. I recently went to see Mary Poppins the Musical in the center for performing arts. I know about 80% of my friends would either say that it was 'gay' or they would just straight up leave halfway through. I personally appreciate sitting down and enjoying stuff like that. I'm the kind of person that would sit down and listen to an orchestra play or go and watch people act our Romeo and Juliet. Most of my other friends would pass on that chance. I would rather read the news instead of putting it into a 30 second video.

Through the past 4-5 years in my life I've learned something that I don't think many of the kids around me know. It's that from hard work comes great benefit.

When people think 'work,' they whine and groan and would only do it if they would get some sort of compensation (preferably monetary). I have a friend who owns a ridiculous estate out in the middle of nowhere (aka Parker, CO). She's got a big backyard and a big front yard. They are kind of a busy family and because of that, a bunch of weeds and stuff have grown like crazy in their front yard. I swear, there was a weed that literally grew about 4 feet tall and was all spikey and it seriously looked like something from an alien world. And there were small minions growing all over. So I told them that I would like to take the responsibility of relieving them of the monstrosities that grow in the yard. I equipped myself with a weed whacker and a lawnmower and I battled the giant monster... and won. Haha this was the first time I had ever worked with a weed whacker (more on my sheltered life later). I will say that I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Sure it was a 2 day project out in the sun. Sure I didn't know that wearing shorts while weed whacking was a bad idea (battle scars aka shards of dirt and grass IN my skin). But in the end, I had a great time.

I appreciate hard work. I don't do it to suck up. I just like working! Even if I don't get anything. Don't look to money to find happiness. That stuff will only get get you temporary happiness.

Good things aren't always through hard work either! I absolutely enjoy spending quality time with people. I love just hanging out with people. Even if we don't do anything. I could totally sit there and be watching tv or on Facebook and still enjoy it as long as someone is there next to me.

Don't miss all the good things in life. They might just be the simplest, smallest things in your everyday world...
